The flu has cosmically derailed all attempts at big progress this week. Also, all attempts at small progress this week.
(Yes, we did all get our flu shots. Yes, I do think they are important to get. Yes, I do think they help my family stay well. Yes, I do think they help shorten the course of the flu, even if they don't prevent it.)
Friday afternoon, the same day as the not-so-great-non-teaching-interview, I started feeling sick. Just a little cough, a little scratchy throat, a little bit achy....But we had little friends coming over to spend the night so that their parents could have their first whole night off in four years, and I wasn't about to cancel that just because I was feeling sad about the job situation.
The friends came, had a fun time, slept a little bit (a very little bit....do they ever learn to sleep at a sleepover?), played hard, and went home on Saturday about lunchtime.
We ate our lunch and all of lay down for naps. My cough was feeling a little worse, and I was feeling really tired, and sweet husband of mine made sure that I really got a good nap. He's a gem. He and my dad took the kids outside to play while I rested inside, and then took the kids out to eat supper, and then the kids went to bed when they got home.
I felt a lot better on Sunday, though my throat was still sore.
Sunday night, the baby started coughing. He coughed a little, all night long, but stayed in his room in his crib.
Monday he went to school, looking a little puny but mostly ok.
They said he had a fever when I picked him up. I couldn't feel a fever, and our thermometers at home didn't register a fever.
He coughed and cried all night.
We went to see the doctor on Tuesday morning. The tech said, "It sounds like the flu." They did the flu test before the doctor even came in to see him.
It's the flu. He wouldn't be put down all day Tuesday. He wouldn't sleep unless held, all night.
That tamiflu, though -- it does its job. It helped the baby feel better, to the point that on Wednesday, he could play.
Too bad Miss Middle woke up in the middle of the night with a fever, and a sore throat.
That flu, it is still taking over my house, one person at a time.
